How to find programmes using TV Replay
Using the search box
Just type in the title of a programme or just type in one word from the title of the show you're looking for. Press the search button and browse the results.
Use the day list
If you know the day that has a programme was shown on 'normal TV', click a day link to find it. You will only find programmes from BBC and ITV in this section.
Use the channel list
Browse programmes by selecting a channel from the left hand channel list.
BBC iPlayer
Programmes shown on the BBC are made available on the iPlayer the next day, where you can watch it on your PC.
The iPlayer does not include all programmes shown by the BBC, as some are subject to legal restrictions (for instance the BBC may not have the right to put them on the internet).
There are two ways to watch shows on the iPlayer, by streaming (PC and Mac) and by downloading (PC only).
Streaming
This means that once you are in the iPlayer website you just click the "play" button on the screen and start watching. You need to stay online for the entire programme.
If you would like to store the programme offline, you should choose to download.
System requirements for streaming
To stream programmes you need:
- The latest version of the Flash player. You can get it from the Adobe website
- Internet connection speed of at least 1Mbps (recommended). Dial up connections are not suitable.
Downloading
Downloading allows you to store the programme on your computer (PCs only - currently the service is not available to Macs or PCs using Linux although the BBC is working on this). You will need to install the iPlayer download software.
You can store a downloaded programme for up to 30 days. When you first start watching the programme, you have seven days until it expires and is no longer available to you.
System requirements for downloading
To download programmes to your Windows PC (the download is not yet available for Mac or Linux) you will need:
- Pentium 4 computer or above
- 1.5Ghz or faster processor
- 512MB or more RAM
- Enough disc space to store a programme - approx 600MB for a typical programme. The programme information page will tell you how much space a programme will take up.
- Broadband internet connection: 512Kbps or faster
You need to be using
- Windows XP or Vista (not available for Mac or Linux just yet). 64-bit Windows XP and XP Media Centre are not currently supported.
- Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) or later or Firefox 1.5 or later, other browsers are not yet supported.
- Windows Media Player 9 or later (before you install BBC iPlayer).
- Video and sound cards that can play streamed or downloaded programmes.
If you don't have Windows Media Player 9 or later you can download it free from the Microsoft Website
