Jane Beale
A compassionate and easy-going woman, Jane Beale (Laurie Brett) has the measure of her wily husband, Ian.

2004 Meets Ian at a candyfloss stand and he offers her a job at his café. Devastated when her terminally ill husband David dies. Ian helps her through it and they become a couple.
2005 Pretends she's pregnant to test Ian's reaction to starting a family but it backfires and they have a major row.
2006 Has a passionate affair with Grant Mitchell. Hurt when Ian pretends Dawn is his wife to impress businessmen. Agrees to marry Ian but wedding is a sham to humiliate her in revenge for her affair. Has a huge fight with Ian in the pouring rain on their wedding day but they kiss and make-up.
2007 Finally marries Ian in a quiet ceremony. Shot by Steven Wicks and has to have a hysterectomy. Devastated to learn she can't have children. Agrees to be godmother to Tanya Branning's son, Oscar.
2008 Estranged brother Christian Clarke reappears. Ian discovers Jane is performing at a comedy club - and he's the butt of most of her jokes. Mother Linda Clarke arrives for an extended stay, having been dumped by her husband. Throws Ian out because he invested in Masala Masood while claiming to be too broke to celebrate Christmas.
2009 Dad Roger turns up and is reunited with her mother. Performs a pole dance for Ian on his 40th birthday.
Nov 2009 Leaves Ian when he reveals he doesn't want any more kids. Later kisses Masood.
Jan 2010 Ian comes clean to her about Janine after Zainab plays her the sex tape Janine made. Is visted by the adoption agency. But Ian is arrested for suspicion of Archie's murder.
Feb 2010 Hears from the adoption agency that they've been rejected. They must wait three more years to reapply.
March 2010 Agrees with Ian to adopt Lucy's baby. But then learns that Lucy's had a miscarriage (in fact it was a termination).
Nov 2010 Lies to Ian that she's planning a romantic trip to Paris when he discovers her secret bank account. Then Ian overhears the truth, that she's planning to leave him, sick of all the lies he's fed her over the years.

Laurie was born in 1970 and she was brought up in Scotland. She went to Mexico when she was a young girl to join a touring circus to secure her an equity card.
