The original 'tart with a heart', Pat Evans (Pam St Clement) flirted with the seedier side of life in her younger years. Now older and wiser, she enjoys friendly sparring with the likes of Peggy Mitchell. Is renowned for her massive earrings!

1986 Arrives after fleeing her violent hubby Brian but son Simon Wicks isn't pleased to see her. Flirts with prostitution and gets young punk Mary Smith involved.

1987 Bumps into her first love Frank Butcher on a day out with the ladies' darts team. Frank tells her he's always loved her!

1988 Frank turns up with kids Diane and Ricky and gets together with Pat. They buy the Queen Vic pub.

1989 Bribes slimy hubby Brian Wicks to get him to sign divorce papers. Marries Frank in June and takes in Frank's other daughter, Janine.

1990 The newlyweds sell up the Queen Vic to concentrate on the B&B and car lot.

1992 Starts up cab business, PatCabs. Knocks down and kills a young girl at Christmas and a breathalyser puts her over the limit.

1993 Sent down for six months and vows never to drive again.

1994 Frank disappears and leaves a desperate Pat in debt. Car salesman Roy Evans bails her out.

1995 Starts dating Roy and discovers he's impotent but decides to stay with him. Discovers Frank is in a refuge in Bristol after a breakdown. Frank turns up on Christmas Day but sends him packing.

1996 Has a one-night-stand with Frank while Roy is away on business and is full of guilt. Marries Roy in November.

1998 Roy loses his car dealership and tries to kill himself.

2000 She and Roy go to Spain on holiday with Frank and Peggy. Starts an affair with Frank. Affair is exposed and Roy throws her out.

2001 Plans to move to New Zealand to be with her son, Simon, but Roy gives her a second chance.

2003 Roy dies from a heart attack after an argument with Pat about Frank. Roy's son Barry blames Pat and leaves her virtually destitute.

2004 Is disgusted when Janine Butcher boasts about how she killed Barry Evans. Implicates Janine in the death of Laura Beale as revenge for Barry's death. Given a job at the bookies by gangster Andy Hunter.

2005 Andy Hunter is murdered and Pat is shocked to find he has left her his house. Frank returns and she sleeps with him. Janine goes on trial and Pat realises her conviction would be wrong. Changes her testimony.

2006 Has a casual affair with Patrick Trueman, who's married. Stacey Slater exposes their relationship in front of punters in the Queen Vic. Deano Wicks turns up and Pat takes him in. His dad Kevin (Pat's nephew) and sister Carly soon follow. By the end of the year, Denise Fox and her kids are living with Pat, too.

2007 Contacted by the institution that was home to her sister, Joan, who had Down's syndrome. Had been told by her mother that Joan was dead. With the help of friendly stranger Len Harker, she retrieves her sister's belongings and discovers Joan died many years later than she thought, had lived a happy life married to a man with Down's syndrome, which was why her mum disowned her, and had often talked about Pat.

2008 Nephew Kevin dies in car crash. Realises grandson Steven's behind the disappearance of Lucy Beale but is accidentally run over by Roxy Mitchell before she can tell Ian. Steven tries to suffocate her in hospital. Hears Frank, the love of her life, has died. Takes in destitute granddaughter Bianca Jackson and her kids. Shortly after, takes in Ricky Butcher, too. Discovers Whitney is being abused by Tony. Helps expose Janine Butcher as a fraud at her Jewish wedding. Takes Janine in after her husband's death leaves her with nothing.

2009 Throws nasty Janine out. Tells Ricky she's retiring. Tries to support Peggy Mitchell as her fiancé, Archie, becomes more controlling. Helps Jack Branning and Darren Miller wrestle the car lot from Janine.

Jan 2010 Has a heart attack during an argument with Peggy, but recovers.

Dec 2010 Witnesses Ryan in an intimate clinch with Stacey and tells Janine what she saw, precipitating Janine's poisonous plot.

Pam was born in London on May 12 1942 to father Reg and mother Ann. Her mother died when she was young and she grew up in various foster homes, including on a farm in Devon. Pam later went to a private boarding school in the South Downs.
